Why does my magnetic stripe Cross Border Long Card need to be replaced by a chip card?

In accordance with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority guideline to enhance ATM security and customer protection, all banks have to replace the issued local magnetic stripe ATM cards to chip cards by Mar 31, 2014.


What is the difference between the old card and the new Cross Border Long Card Chip Card besides better security?

Can I use the Cross Border Long Card Chip Card immediately after received?

You can use the new chip card with existing password immediately after card acknowledgement via returning acknowledgement slip, Online Banking or Customer Service Hotline.

I have forgotten the password of my existing Cross Border Long Card, how can I apply for a new password?

You can visit any of our branches to apply for a new password and use the card immediately if you forgot existing password.

Can I still use my magnetic stripe card after I have acknowledged my Cross Border Long Card Chip Card?

Your old card will become invalid after new card acknowledgment. Please cut and destroy your old card into halves once your new card has been acknowledged.

Can I continue to use my magnetic stripe card if I do not acknowledge my Cross Border Long Card Chip Card?

Effective from April 1, 2014, magnetic stripe ATM cards are no longer valid for any local ATM transactions. Moreover, your magnetic stripe card will become invalid after card expiry. Please acknowledge and use your new card upon receipt.

I can only access one CCB (Asia) Account in Cross Border Long Card via CCB (Asia) ATMs previously, is it the same for the new card?

In order to fulfill customer needs, customers with the new card can enquire all CCB (Asia) accounts via our ATMs, including HKD checking (if any), HKD savings (if any) and RMB savings account (if any).

I cannot enquire all CCB Accounts via CCB (Asia) ATMs previously. Will I experience the same with the new card?

In order to fulfill customer needs, customers with the new Cross Border Long Card Chip Card can enquire for all CCB accounts via our ATMs, including HKD Cash, HKD Remittance, RMB Savings and RMB Time Deposit Account (if any).

Do I need to activate the Overseas ATM Transaction function before using the Cross Border Long Card Chip Card in mainland / overseas ATM for cash withdrawal?

Yes, customer needs to activate the Overseas ATM Transaction function before using the Cross Border Long Card Chip Card in mainland / overseas ATM for cash withdrawal. Transaction is debited from the account of CCB (Asia) (including direct debit or auto-transfer).

What is the difference of auto-transfer service between Cross Border Long Card Chip Card and old magnetic stripe card?

You can select the transaction account by using the Cross Border Long Card Chip Card via ATMs of CCB (Asia). If CCB (Asia) HKD Checking Account is selected with insufficient fund, auto-transfer will be effected and the whole transaction amount will be debited from your HKD Savings Account. With the new Cross Border Long Card Chip Card, you can now select HKD Savings Account as debit account, auto-transfer will be effected and debited from your CCB account when the fund is insufficient.

I had only my HKD Checking account linked with my old card, can I add my HKD Savings or RMB Savings account to the Cross Border Long Card Chip Card?

You can visit any of our branch and fill in the form to link up your account with the new Chip Card.
